Originally by: Ekscalybur Why would I continue to pay a monthly fee for a halfassed FPS game? Especially considering most other FPS's are free to play online. And if the FPS isn't halfassed, EvE would shortly become halfassed because all dev time would have to be focused on the FPS part of it to make it not halfassed. Which still leaves me paying for an FPS game when all others are free..... and most likely better.
Why are so many people who play Eve, claim to really enjoy Eve, so hellbent on having the developers create an entirely new game with this walking in stations junk? If you want to play an FPS, why not just load one up?
Maybe CCP should make it a Standalone FPS, interacting with EVE. Might be like this:
Alliance A attacks Alliance B's Outpost, they bring Dreads, BS, all that nifty stuff that pewpews. Their transports are on standby to unload the troops into the station, but those small missile and gun batteries on the stations hull would still be killing those transports. The battlecruisers and anything above cant target those batteries directly, thus A calls in the AFs and Destroyers, which can take out those nasty defenses. Once an area of the hull is cleared, the transports undock from the carriers and go straight for the hull's weak spots.
Meanwhile, some 30 FPS guys notice there is ground fighting to begin, and log into the "slots" A has rented for some amount of ISK. They dont know who they attack or where or why. Their consciousnesses (?) are sent to the carrier which now provides with clones. They pick up their equipment A provides them, and head for the transport. Once seated, they get the orders from the responsible Alliance guy ("Squad A take on the sheild thingies, Squad B go for the cantina and get some exotic dancers, we want at least 35 of them! Don't forget the Spirits!"). Alliance A has the possibility to assign a number of slots and positions to certain people, maybe alliance members who will be able to participate in the battle and lead the Rent-A-Guns.
They are slowboating to the station, get raped by one of B's interceptors, wake up at the Carrier again, but already are seated in the next transport. Once the transport clenches itself to the outer hull, the heavy weapons guy (What, noone has an engineering kit to cut through the hull?? WTF?"), rinse and repeat, they are back at the hull, cutting their way through steel. They reach the inside perimeter, and a base of Operations is set up (Respawn point etc.). Until now, they have not been noticed, but soon enough some patrol discovers the base and calls reinforcements. Sadly for B, they have only rented 20 slots, and cannot reinforce until a given amount of time is over. Sadly for A, B has rented these two squadslots to a single clan, and those two squads have a walk in the park wiping out those 30 unorganised, random, untrained guys A has rented.
I might add some stuff later, but 2am is the time and I'm most likely to falls asleep soon. ______________________________________ Talking much means less time thinking.
